We worked with our Members and collaborated with key industry stakeholders to set out a framework that addresses environmental, social and governance issues for the gold mining sector. The result was the Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs), launched in 2019. The RGMPs clearly set out expectations for consumers, investors and others in the gold supply chain as to what constitutes responsible gold mining.
The RGMPs are a World Gold Council Membership requirement and in addition to our Members, many other gold mining companies have decided to report against these Principles. This framework is setting the bar high and all implementing companies need to obtain external assurance by a third party and publicly disclose this assurance to conform with the RGMPs.
