-

The World Gold Council was delighted to be a lead sponsor at the 10th World Pension Summit in The Hague, Holland.

Attending the World Pension Summit for the first time, John Reade, Chief Market Strategist and Managing Director of Research, moderated the first panel of the conference: “Changing times need new solutions – how are the world’s most sophisticated adapting?” with guest panellists including:

  • John St.Hill, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, NEST
  • Eloy Lindeijer, CIO PGGM
  • Ronald van Dijk, Managing Director, Head of Capital Markets Investments, APG Asset Management

The panel covered topics including:

  • How are global asset owners planning to run their investment strategies against a backdrop of international trade and political tensions? What is their view of the role of financial regulators -- and do they still have the ability to help when a crisis hits?
  • What are the biggest challenges and opportunities for 2020 and which major global shifts will specifically impact pension fund investment strategies?
    - Assessing the return of volatility
    - Does economic policy command the power it once did?
    - How economic superpower actions hit everyone's portfolios
    - Spotlight on megatrends: shifting demographics, technology & innovation and sustainability

Then on the second day, Terry Heymann, Chief Financial Officer, participated in a panel looking at Climate Change friendly solutions, alongside fellow panellists Caroline Ramscar, Legal and General Investment Management and Lars Jensen, Sustainable Energy, and moderated by Cindy Coltman from Both ENDS.

The panel explored what investment options are out there to intentionally counter that risk, which connected neatly with the recent launch of our “Gold and Climate Change: Current and Future Impacts” report.
