World Gold Council is pleased to announce
its Sixth International Symposium on Gold Jewellery Technology. The World
Gold Councils Symposium is jointly promoted by the Vicenza Trade Fair
and AngloGold and will take place at VicenzaOro 2 on Sunday 13 June, 1999.
Within the overall theme, "Quality through
Technology", the symposium will examine how technology can play a key
role in ensuring the quality of the jewellery product and the future growth
of the gold jewellery industry beyond the year 2000. The technical programme
will consist of 6 presentations by leading authorities in their field from
Germany, Israel, Italy and the United Kingdom. The Manager and Chairman
of the symposium is Dr Christopher W Corti, Manager, Technical Information
& Development, World Gold Council, London. Mr Mark Grimwade, Consultant
to World Gold Council and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, London,
will chair the Open Forum session which will enable delegates to discuss
the presentations and the implications for their businesses with the speakers.
With the approach of the year 2000, the 1999
symposium will cover two themes that are of key importance to the progressive
gold jewellery producer. The first focuses on quality and quality assurance,
both of which are becoming increasingly important in terms of consumer demand
and international competitiveness.
Under the theme Quality Assurance
- the Key to Future Profitability, three presentations examine
this topic from practical experience:
- Quality Assurance - Is ISO 9000 the Answer?
- Logic, Technology and Quality: Life as a Trade Caster
- International Hallmarking - Pipedream or Possibility?
The second theme examines Advanced Technology - the Key to Innovation
and Quality, with presentations on:
- White Golds - Meeting the Demands of International Legislation
- Electroforming for Innovative Design
- Gold Wedding Rings from Powder Tomorrows Technology Today
This will be the sixth International Technology Symposium on Gold Jewellery
to be held in association with the Vicenza Fair. The first, held in June
1993, attracted an audience of 200 from 18 countries and these numbers
have grown considerably in subsequent years. This event is unique in the
international gold jewellery calendar and provides a forum whereby manufacturers
can come together to discuss and assess the latest materials and production
technology. Those participating in the symposia recognise that a better
use of technology is the key to enhancing jewellery product quality, to
overcoming the health and environmental challenges posed by tighter legislation
and to maintaining and enhancing competitiveness in the growing international
market for gold jewellery. World Gold Council, through activities directed
at the gold jewellery trade, offers invaluable support and opportunities
to the trade which are valid both for large firms and for artisans in
the small craft workshops world-wide.
To attend this Sixth International Symposium, advance registration is
requested.

World Gold Council actively promotes the development of gold jewellery
production technology and its application by the industry. It undertakes
an expanding programme of international and local technical seminars and
publishes technical information on jewellery technology. This takes place
both in a basic format for producers in emerging markets and also at a
more advanced level in the Councils "Gold Technology"
journal to stimulate adoption of technology Best Practice. A range of
technical publications have been produced in recent years to support the
Councils programmes of technical seminars and workshops. Technology
development programmes are carried out on the Councils behalf in
the R & D laboratories of world-leading institutes and precious metal
companies.
AngloGold is the worlds largest gold producer with annual
output of some 7 million ounces and reserves of 140 million ounces. AngloGold,
in addition to their regular support to the World Gold Council, is working
hard with other gold producers to renew and strengthen the Council. AngloGolds
direct involvement in "Gold Trends 2000" is evidence of that
commitment.
World Gold Council is an international organisation formed and
funded by leading gold mining companies from around the world to increase
demand for gold.
