The safe return of a gold ring to its rightful owner has led one writer to express his thanks following a fruitless metal detector hunt.

Pete Brewer Jr of Camp Nelson writes for the Visalia Times-Delta and Tulare Advance-Register that his wedding ring went missing during some work on a construction site.

He told his friend Bob Yeager, who provided him with a metal detector to try and find the ring.

After more than two hours, he gave up hope of finding his gold ring and ended the search.

However, Mr Yeager's neighbour's son found the ring in a gutter and returned it to Mr Brewer.

"The call happened," writes Mr Brewer. "Suzie said to me, 'It's just a miracle that the boys found it. It could have been taken by someone.'"

Metal detectorists were recently told that patience can be the key to discovering treasure, as Alastair Hacket told the Scotsman that if you "stick at it" good finds will eventually appear.
