An American gold jewellery designer has come up with a unique idea that is hoped to help raise money for various charities, it has been revealed.

Lorraine Baratta, is set to design a range of gold coins that can be attached to bracelets and necklaces as an interesting charm, reports NorthJersey.com

But as well as providing an attractive addition to pieces of jewellery, the gold items will also help to raise money for charities.

The designer has created eight such gold coins, which come in the size of an American nickel, quarter or 50 cent piece.

Each separate gold coin is designed with a different theme in mind, such as breast cancer or Parkinson's disease, Ms Baratta tells the website.

"I call it a caring coin," she says. "It's an actual coin made specifically for that organisation. Whatever we sell, they make 20 percent of the profits."

SRS Jewels recently advised that unique gold jewellery is a good way to show affection to a loved one this Valentine's Day.
