Monday, 8th February 2010 (852 views) An exhibition exploring the history and uses of gold has opened in Cincinnati, Ohio.The display, entitled Gold, was launched on February 6th and will remain open until May 16th. It showcases a wide variety of artefacts illustrating the importance that gold has held in many different countries over the years. Among these is the Boot of Cortez, a 26 lb gold nugget, as well as the 108 lb Summitville Boulder, which takes the form of a chunk of volcanic rock containing over 22 lb of crystalline gold. Displays explaining how gold is used in science and technology are also included in the exhibition, while visitors can also walk through a 300 sq ft room lined with three ounces of gold that has been hammered as thin and flat as possible. Gold coins, bars, awards, jewellery and ornaments are among the other items on show in Gold. The exhibition was previously hosted by American Museum of Natural History in New York in 2006 and 2007.
