Monday, 1st February 2010 (3189 views) The Singapore Mint has extended its remit of producing coins and medals to include jewellery-making.According to the Business Times, the mint started its new venture at the end of 2009 as part of an attempt to widen its product offering. Yip Pak Ling, director of the Singapore Mint, said that he hopes to see jewellery account for between ten and 20 per cent of the organisation's overall annual revenues. Its jewellery products include charms and ornaments geared towards specific occasions, such as Valentine's Day. Mr Yip explained that the mint strives to produce the highest quality items and that he personally inspects the first item manufactured in each new line. "If the workmanship is not to my satisfaction, I will not allow them to be sold because once you lose your reputation, it's going to be very, very difficult to win hearts back," he stated. Some of the mint's main gold products include commemorative coins and medals, including those celebrating each new Chinese year and items for specific one-off events.
