High-grade gold strike in CanadaThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 11th December 2009 (1687 views) A new, high-grade gold zone has been discovered in the La Ronge Gold Belt of northern Saskatchewan, Canada.Golden Band Resources said the deposit was intercepted by drilling intended to test the continuation of the existing Bingo gold zone. Results from the new area, named the 188 Zone, shows it hosts gold grades of up to 31.58 grams per tonne over one meter and extends from near the surface to a depth of 16.5 metres, the company noted. It exists in an area with no historic drilling or previous gold discoveries and represents an "en-enchelon structural duplication of the main Bingo Zone". Golden Band said it is now planning follow-up drilling to confirm the orientation of the 188 Zone and to test its size and extent. According to the exploration firm, gold was first discovered in Saskatchewan in 1859. Prospecting began in what would become the La Ronge Gold Belt in the 1920s.
