Monday, 23rd November 2009 (1689 views) An exhibition of the golden sarcophagus of King Tutankhamen is hoped to bring thousands of people to Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).The display will present a range of gold artefacts, including gold sandals that were found on the mummy of King Tut, gold finger and toe covers and the iconic golden sarcophagus. More than 50,000 advance tickets have already been purchased by people who are curious about the Egyptian king and his mysterious death over 2,000 years ago. The exhibition begins tomorrow (November 24th) and will be displaying around 130 artefacts from the time of King Tut and other pharaohs, including Hatshepsut - the only female pharaoh. A ten-foot statue of King Tut, which was found at the remains of the funerary temple of two of his high officials, will also be on display at the museum. A series of gold rings, bracelets and pendants that are inspired by ancient Egypt have been produced for the AGO gift shop and will range in price from C$300 (£170) to C$1,000.
