Jewellery designer Alex Monroe is to launch a new collection of gold jewellery for retailer Liberty.

Entitled The Peacock & The Crow, the range is inspired by a folk tale about how the peacock got its colourful plumage.

It will be launched on November 26th and includes earrings and other pieces.

According to the story, both the peacock and the crow originally had white feathers and the crow painted the peacock in bright shades after seeing a field of colourful flowers.

However, the peacock poured black paint over the crow out of spite in return.

Speaking to Retail Jeweller, Emma Burgin of Alex Monroe said: "The pieces we are launching at Liberty will be reworked into a new collection for autumn/winter 2010, so this is also an opportunity to play with design ideas and test the water."

Alex Monroe was established in 1987 and is based in London. Liberty is the main stockist of the firm's products.

Much of Alex Monroe's jewellery is based on influences from nature and tend to take on feminine forms.
