Wednesday, 4th November 2009 (440 views) Indian firm Reliance Jewels has launched a new set of gold wedding jewellery inspired by antique design. The collection is crafted from 22-c gold and includes a necklace, earrings, an amulet and a small headpiece that runs from the centre of the scalp to the forehead, known as a maang tika. Each piece is set with rubies and decorated with gold coins, and has been especially produced for traditional Indian pre-wedding rituals including Mehendi and Sangeet, JCK India reports. Gold jewellery is a popular wedding gift in India and usually accounts for a significant proportion of the country's annual gold sales. The current festive season - which runs until the end of December - is often seen as an auspicious time to get married by Hindus in the region. A number of jewellers recently told Reuters that they had seen an uptick in gold sales since the end of October as a result of the wedding season.
