Monday, 2nd November 2009 (285 views) A Scottish museum's bid to acquire a hoard of Bronze Age, Roman and Viking treasure that includes several gold items has been given a boost after receiving a generous donation.Elgin Museum received £20,000 from an anonymous family in Moray for its campaign to bring the Burghead haul - which includes gold rings, coins and jewellery - to the city after raising £2,000 in other donations. David Addison, curator at Elgin Museum, said the windfall will help him to "confidently" put in a bid for the hoard, the Press & Journal reports. "What I am trying to do is build up a picture of what is happening in this field and that is why it is important that I bid for and get these items back to Moray," he explained. The Burghead treasure was first uncovered by metal detector users at Clarkly Hill in September last year, with the most recent find taking place last week.
