Gold treasures on display in Thai palaceThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 2nd November 2009 (340 views) Visitors to Bangkok can now view a variety of gold treasures at Dusit Palace's Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall venue. The Arts of the Kingdom exhibition in the building showcases 23 items that are replicas of gold items made by royal goldsmiths for Thailand's monarchs, the Star Weekend reports. All of the non-wood objects in the display are either crafted from solid gold or gilded. They include golden thrones, boats, barges and a palanquin used by high-ranking members of the Thai royal family. The Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall was built in the early 20th century. Goldsmithing has a long history in Thailand. For example, goldsmiths in Si Satchanalai in Sukhothai province still craft jewellery based on designs with ancient origins, the Thailand News Agency reported earlier this year. Each of these intricate pieces can take at least three days to finish and are wrought from 99.99 per cent pure gold bullion.
