Significant gold find reported in MexicoThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 1st October 2009 (4232 views) Canadian mining and exploration firm Gammon Gold has discovered "significant mineralisation" in three areas of its Ocampo operation in northern Mexico. The company said drilling has intercepted gold in the Santa Eduviges, Las Molinas and San Amado zones. Among the results from Santa Eduviges was a nine-metre intercept of gold assayed at the equivalent of 14.57 grams per tonne (g/t¬). As result of this and other "very encouraging" finds, Gammon Gold has expanded its original 4,380-metre drilling programme in the area by 5,900 metres. The company's senior vice-president of technical services, Chris Bostwick, said the Santa Eduviges deposit is "demonstrating increasing potential to become the third producing mine on the Ocampo property". Elsewhere, Gammon has recorded a "bonanza grade" intercept of 318 g/t gold over 0.5 metres in the San Amado zone. Its exploration work in the Las Molinas zone has also identified "significant new mineralisation". The Ocampo project is located in the Sierra Madre Occidental in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The region has been producing gold for over 150 years, although much of the current Gammon property remains unexplored.
