A Hawaiian gold jeweller has won a Best of Business award.

Designs 'N Gold, a firm that produces gold bracelets, rings and pendants in a Hawaiian style, was presented with the accolade by the Small Business Commerce Association (SBCA) in the USA.

It was found to be the best in the jewellery category by the organisation, which based its decision on customer feedback obtained in monthly surveys.

Furthermore, consumer rankings and a series of other reports were taken into account when deciding on the recipient of the prize.

Owned by Colette Aoki, the firm was recognised as having a place in the top five per cent of businesses in the US.

It recently launched a service that enables people to recycle their old gold pieces, by melting the precious metal and creating new items tailored to the customer.

A statement from the SBCA commended the firm and noted companies acknowledged demonstrate elements that are a "vital part" of the US economy.

It said: "Award winners are a valuable asset to their community and exemplify what makes small businesses great."
