A business association in Idaho is offering members of the public the chance to win their own gold mine.

The Wallace Business Community Association is giving away a small gold claim near the historic mining town of Murray to the winner of a raffle taking place on October 2nd, KXLY reports.

It purchased the 30-acre claim for $3,500 (£2,181), but could be sold at today's market value for up to $15,000, the association says.

The winner will only be able to use the claim for recreational mining, however, and will be required to pay an annual fee to the Bureau of Land Management.

"They say they've never found the mother lode in Murray," Susan Halley of the Wallace Business Community Association remarked.

AJ Prichard sparked a gold rush in the area after finding placer gold in 1883.

Some 2,000 miners, prospectors and followers flooded to Murray, with 10,000 people having moved to the area by 1885.
