A pair of desktop analysers for testing gold using X-ray fluorescence has been launched in the United States.

They are part of the Quickshot XRF line, which aims to provide instruments that are more cost-effective than traditional XRF machines, yet still offer similar levels of speed and accuracy.

The QSX-79T is designed as a low-cost gold tester. It has a colour camera system to allow users to monitor the exact position of the sample they are working on and has a large chamber big enough for gold bars and bulk analysis.

Meanwhile, the QSX-295T has been developed to provide full analysis of precious metals and gold carat identification within five seconds.

The desktop analysers are aimed at jewellers and refiners of precious metals.

Unlike some other XRF analysers, neither machine needs liquid nitrogen.

In addition to the desktop analysers, Quickshot XRF has also launched a handheld model, the QSX-HH, which has multiple software options, including one for precious metal analysis.
