Gold medallions 'please auction goers'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 12th June 2009 (669 views) Gold medallions proved to be popular at Kaminski Auctions' sale at the end of last month. The American auction house, based in Beverly, Massachusetts, dubbed three such items "crowd-pleasers" after they fetched more than $12,000 (£7,287) combined. An 1855 French gold medallion depicting Napoleon III was bought for the largest amount at $5,750. Meanwhile, a Victoria Jubilee piece from 1897 was purchased for $3,450. The final item, which was thought to be from 1831 and featured William IV of England, sold for $3,100 - over 100 per cent more than its high estimate. Frank Kaminski, who owns the sale room, suggested the whole two-day event had been a success, with locals and international collectors bidding on a number of lots. "Prices realised were strong across a spectrum of fine art, decorative arts, furniture and collectibles," he remarked. Elsewhere in Massachusetts, Boston-based Skinner is gearing up to host an auction on June 16th, which will feature a variety of 18-c gold items.
