Friday, 29th May 2009 (899 views) The Anchorage Museum in Alaska is set to reopen tomorrow (May 30th), with a range of gold items among the main attractions. An exhibit - entitled Gold - will feature more than 300 artefacts, including Aztec jewellery and pieces recovered from sunken ships. Alaska is a major gold-producing state and visitors to the museum will be able to learn how the precious metal is mined and processed, while highlights of the displays will be a Faberge Easter egg and a Tiffany brooch designed by Paloma Picasso. The exhibition runs until the beginning of August and museum spokesperson Sarah Henning explained that it could not have been housed in the old venue. "We have a shiny new building. We needed a shiny exhibit as well," she told the Association Press. The Anchorage Museum was originally opened as a public-private partnership in 1968, marking the 100th anniversary of Alaska's purchase from Russia.
