Friday, 15th May 2009 (5544 views) The environmental benefits of nanotechnology are to be discussed at a conference being held in July by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).Taking place in Paris on July 15th-17th, the event will be attended by representatives from OECD member countries and will focus on the role nanotechnology - which often involves the use of gold - can play in areas such as pollution reduction and efficient production methods. "Nanotechnology is an emerging technology which could significantly contribute to raising living standards and improving the quality of life," the body said in a statement. "Maximising" the potential of nanotechnology is fast-becoming an "important topic for discussion", it added, noting that the conference will cover both the opportunities and challenges that the future of the sector will bring. According to a recent study by research firm RNCOS, the nanotechnology industry could be valued at over $30 billion (£19.6 billion) by 2013.
