Thursday, 2nd April 2009 (2803 views) An artist in the US is using ancient techniques to incorporate gold into his collection of work.Agustin Vargas of Phoenix is to exhibit his work at the Arizona State University Gammage show between April 15th and June 21st. Mr Vargas uses more traditional materials such as oil and watercolour paint as well as adding 24-c gold leaf to his designs. "My work is created from a foundation of ancient techniques combined with themes that are current and contemporary," he said. He noted that he is influenced by the Italian Renaissance period as well as Venetian techniques. Those interested in viewing an exhibition involving gold may wish to visit the latest artefacts to be displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Costumes woven with an almost solid gold thread and a gilded Mexican altarpiece form part of the opulent Baroque 1620-1800: Style in the Age of Magnificence exhibition at the museum this month.
