A new exhibition in Paris is showcasing the work of jewellery designers whose work became popular in the 1930s and includes a number of gold pieces.

The Art Deco and Avant-Garde Jewellery show at Les Arts Decoratifs looks at the period that straddled the Art Deco and Modernist, with items on display that were inspired by technological innovation, architecture and science, Women's Wear Daily reports.

Highlights of the exhibition include a gold and lacquer pendant made in 1932 by Jean Despres from the private collection of Stephanie Seymour Brant and a 1931 gold bracelet made by Van Cleef & Arpels for the Paris Colonial Exhibition of that year.

More than 300 jewellery items are on display at the gallery as part of the show, which opened on March 19th 2009.

Located on the Rue de Rivoli, Les Arts Decoratifs houses around 150,000 objects of French art and design dating from the Middle Ages to the present day.
