Exploration at one of African Consolidated Resources' (ACR) mines in Zimbabwe has yielded near-surface gold mineralisation, the company has announced.

The discovery was made at the Gadzema Belt site, which is located south of the Giant Mine.

Highlights from the drilling included 22m at 6.5 g/t from 36m at one hole - which included 15m at 9 g/t - as well as 24m at 2.7 g/t.

ACR, which is based in the UK and has operations in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique, noted that recent changes to the gold selling process made by the Zimbabwean government will aid the industry.

It is now planning to embark on a deeper drilling campaign, with the aim of closing off broad gold intercepts that have been affected by a quartz diorite intrusion.

Meanwhile, Canadian firm African Queen Mines has revealed that its sampling programme in Mozambique - carried out over the last two years - has proven to be "very effective" in identifying sources of gold.
