Wednesday, 21st January 2009 (2597 views) Andina Minerals has reported that it has been granted approval for the environmental impact declaration permit for its Chilean Volcan gold project. The Toronto-based company explained that a number of state agencies are required to provide input and approval for the permitting process, which formalises the conditions for further advanced exploration activities at the prospect. According to Andina, a limited drilling programme has begun at the Volcan project focused on key areas of the Dorado West deposit and the 2008-09 drill programme is not expected to exceed 6,000m. Located in Chile's Maricunga gold belt, the Volcan gold property lies 120km east of Copiapo and Andina has also been granted exploration rights to the Rio Astaburuaga aquifer 15km south-east of the Volcan property. George Bee, Andina president and chief executive, said: "The approval of this declaration is a significant step forward for Andina as we change our focus from exploration to advancing toward the development of the Volcan Project." Andina Minerals is focused on exploration of gold projects in the Americas and has a portfolio of five precious metals projects in Chile.
