Several gold items have been included in a list of the top ten presents for people to give this Christmas.

US firm Gordon's, which offers 18-c gold jewellery, has counted a variety of rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets among its recommendations for festive gifts.

These include hoop earrings in white gold, which the company described as "a classy and versatile choice for a sophisticated woman" and a heart pendant adorned with ribbons of the precious metal.

A "dazzling" ring that features twists of white gold and a set of stud earrings are also suggested, while Christians are encouraged to celebrate the nativity season with a gold cross pendant.

"Dainty" bracelets that are decorated with X shapes, designed to represent kisses, are also on the list of desirable presents.

Meanwhile, a survey by National Jeweller has discovered that gold is a popular choice for Christmas gifts this year, with sentimental value being added by personal touches such as names or dates being engraved on the items.
