Kerala show attracts gold jewellers

Monday, 17th November 2008 (473 views)

A three-day jewellery show in Kerala has been hailed as the state's first business-to-business (B2B) jewellery event.

The exhibition attracted a host of gold jewellers, retailers, manufacturers, designers, artisans and wholesalers who networked and exhibited their latest products.

Held at Le Meridian, Cochin, between November 14th and 16th, the B2B Kerala Gem & Jewellery Show was organised by Indian magazine The Art of Jewellery and presented by the government of Kerala.

Elamaram Kareem, the Kerala industries minister, told Manoramaonline.com that the state government was taking all steps to support the jewellery sector and was planning to turn the show into an annual event that coincides with the Kerala Shopping Festival.

The event is intended to boost trade in the state, one of the largest jewellery producers in south India, bringing retailers into direct contact with manufacturers from across the country.

Thousands of visitors attended Dubai International Jewellery Week between November 11th and 15th this month, with organisers stating that the 2008 event was 20 per cent bigger than its predecessor.
