Sarah Palin's gold Alaska earrings show she is "proud of her roots"

The type of jewellery that the leading females in US politics wear says a lot about their personalities, it has been claimed.

New York-based firm Firenze Jewels has released its take on what the jewellery habits of several prominent female political figures indicate.

Potential first lady Michelle Obama has a distinct style similar to that of Jacqueline Kennedy that means she is "very down to earth and comfortable with who she is", it suggested.

And vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's choice of gold earrings in the shape of Alaska shows that she is "proud of her roots".

Hillary Clinton's style indicates that she is confident and in control, while Cindy McCain's preference for "bold" pieces means that she may not be happy to play the role of a traditional Republican wife, it adds.

Recently, New York's Museum of Arts and Design opened a state-of-the-art jewellery resource centre named the Tiffany & Co Foundation Jewellery Gallery, after the famous company donated money to the project.
