Production commences at Lac Herbin gold mineThursday, 23rd October 2008 (345 views) Alexis Minerals has revealed that it has achieved commercial production at its first gold mine at Lac Herbin, in the Val D'Or area of Quebec.The mine is on track to reach full capacity during this quarter and meet its production target of 17,000 ounces of gold for 2008. "This is a significant event since Alexis has now joined the leagues of the junior gold producers," the company stated. It hopes to produce 36,000 ounces of gold over the course of 2009. Over 200 attendees - including government representatives, members of the media, key suppliers and employees - gathered at the mine for its official opening at the start of the month. Around 5,860 ounces of gold were recovered from 26,769 tonnes of ore from the mill on October 10th, on schedule and providing higher grades than was previously expected. Recently, Noront Resources expressed its gratitude to the province of Quebec and praised its "effective" exploration rebate programme.
