Kirkland Lake Gold has announced that it has intersected two new gold zones at its South Mine Complex (SMC) project in Ontario.

The SMC consists of over 15 mineralised zones and exploration drilling has been conducted in order to expand known gold-bearing areas.

Stewart Carmichael, chief exploration geologist for the firm, said that workers testing a portion in the central part of the complex came across the two new areas of mineralisation at a depth of more than 5,400 ft.

"Further definition drilling in this complex area of the SMC will be required to verify geometry and continuity," he commented.

One drill hole returned 41.14 ounces of gold per tonne uncut over a true width of 13.3ft.

Meanwhile, Copper Reef Mining recently announced that it will commence a 36-hole exploration programme on the Gold Rock project in the Snow Lake region of Manitoba.
