Gold history to be explored in Australian art exhibitionThursday, 25th September 2008 (286 views) An art exhibition detailing the history of gold prospecting communities in Australia will open in Kalgoorlie next week, it has been reported.It will feature the work of Kerrie Argent, whose pieces aim to explore the continual search for gold using local mining lore as her inspiration, according to the Golden Mail. She told the paper: "I make art with materials from the natural and urban environment." Tania Spencer is another local artist who will showcase her work at the event. Her aim is to focus on contemporary issues using ancient techniques. The show will be launched at the Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame on October 3rd. A solid-gold statue of supermodel Kate Moss recently caused a stir in the art world when it was unveiled at the British Museum in London. Created by Marc Quinn, the sculpture weighs 50kg and is worth about £1.5 million.
