The price for the Andrew Jackson First Spouse gold coin has been announced by the US Mint, reports Numismatic News.

August 28th will be the release date for the coin. The uncirculated version will cost $599.95 (£324) and the half-ounce proof version will cost $619.95.

According to the website, these prices are identical to the Elizabeth Monroe and Louisa Adams gold coins.

For the two versions of the coin, there will be a mintage limit set at 40,000 but the breakdown of uncirculated or proof models will be determined by customer demand.

In addition, the US Mint has placed a ten coin limit for the first week of sales. This limit will be reviewed after the seven days.

Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the US from 1829 to 1837.

One of his contributions to the bureaucracy of the country was to implement the rotation in office of politicians in order to prevent corruption.
