Gold party popularity 'picking up steam'

Thursday, 21st August 2008 (384 views)

Gold parties are increasing in popularity, it has been claimed.

CNBC reports that the modern equivalent of the Tupperware party, which emerged in the 1950s, is "picking up steam".

Guests at the parties are invited to bring a range of items, such as gold rings, necklaces and even teeth, which are weighed and valued.

The host can then choose to buy the gold before selling it on to a refinery.

Although many people may lack sufficient funds to host a gold party, the news source reports that some companies will invite willing homeowners to stage them on their behalf.

"Typically, these companies manage the process and you get ten per cent of the proceeds," CNBC stated.

A gold pendant recently discovered in Kent was declared to be treasure trove this week, KentOnline reported.

The piece was found in a field by an enthusiast with a metal detector and was dated between 491 and 518 AD.
