A museum in the US will be host to an "unusual" exhibition of medieval gold jewellery, tableware and coins, reports Antiques And The Arts Online.

Yeshiva University Museum will showcase the objects, taken from a personal Jewish collection discovered in Erfurt, Germany.

The touring exhibition is called Erfurt: Jewish Treasures from Medieval Ashkenaz and will also go to the Wallace Collection in London and Beth Hatefutsoth in Tel Aviv before reaching its final destination at Erfurt's 11th century synagogue next year.

Included in the collection is a gold Jewish wedding ring which features an ornate version of a gothic, 14th century tower which has the words mazal tov engraved into it - meaning good luck.

The ring is one of the few Ashkenazi wedding rings to have survived as many were melted down when they became out of fashion.

Ashkenazi was the Hebrew name given to medieval Jews living in Germany, translating literally as German Jews.
