Rare gold coin up for auctionWednesday, 20th August 2008 (355 views) An auction to be held next week will feature a rare commemorative gold coin.According to numismaster.com, the coin was part of a series created to mark the fifth birthday of Tohui, the first giant panda born outside China to survive. The Mexico City Mint produced the 12 ounce gold medallic piece in 1986 and the portal describes it as exceptionally rare. Ponterio & Associates is hosting the auction in Beverly Hills and the Tohui coin is expected to fetch between $15,000 (£8,075) and $20,000. A range of commemorative gold coins was launched at the site of the world's deepest and oldest meteor impact this week, according to SABCnews.com. The Vredefort Dome was formed in South Africa two billion years ago and was designated a world heritage site in 2005. It is one of seven such sites in the country that have been chosen to be commemorated.
