Madonna chooses gold for 50th birthday celebration

Monday, 18th August 2008 (315 views)

Madonna has celebrated reaching the age of 50 in style, appearing at her birthday party "draped in gold jewellery".

According to the Mirror, the pop star's husband Guy Ritchie helped to organise the £100,000 gathering at the Volstead nightclub in London.

And he recognised his wife's appreciation of the precious metal by buying her an 18-carat gold watch worth £50,000 to mark the occasion, contactmusic.com reports.

Just 90 guests attended Madonna's party and in a speech lasting 40 minutes she revealed disappointment that many of her showbusiness friends had not made an appearance, although she thanked those that did.

"I can't believe I have reached half a century," she said, adding: "It only happens once and this is an event I'm glad to be sharing with you."

Last week Fox Business revealed that stars such as Emmy Rossum and Mena Suvari had attended the launch of a new Piaget collection wearing white gold jewellery.
