Gold mattress made for pets

Thursday, 7th August 2008 (1016 views)

An Italian company has decided to launch a range of mattresses threaded with gold for pets, reports the New York Times.

Magniflex first introduced mattresses for humans two years. Each are woven with 22-karat gold thread and cost from $24,000 (£12,323) for a queen to $30,000 for a king.

The idea to produce the mattresses in pet sizes was given to the company when a Russian client asked for one for her dog several months ago.

Since then, Magniflex revealed the Gold Pet Mattresses at the Furniture Market in Las Vegas last week. They will be priced between $1,000 and $2,000.

Global sales director for the company, Marco Magni, told the newspaper why he thought people would want to buy a gold bed for their dog: "I am sure that in certain cases, people that maybe have a lot of contact with his dog, they don't miss nothing the rest of their life, they want to offer him the same level of life."

Pet owners can also adorn their animals with bejewelled collars or carry them around in designer pet carry cases like the £1,070 dog bag from Louis Vuitton.
