Ontario government advert promotes miningThursday, 31st July 2008 (393 views) A new TV advertisement being rolled out by the government of Ontario in Canada features the mining industry, it has been pointed out.The Ontario Mining Association (OMA) notes on its website that the new campaign to promote the provincial government's Second Career initiative promotes the industry as a potential solution for recently laid-off, unemployed citizens. Noting that mining has not been prominent in provincial government television advertising since the early 1990s, the OMA links this new development to comments recently made by the Ontario finance minister. The government representative, Dwight Duncan, said: "Mining has been one of Ontario's great recent success stories. "To encourage further growth, the government will invest C$20 million (£10 million) for geological mapping and close to $7 million to implement the Ontario Mineral Development Strategy." Members of the OMA - which represents the mining industry in the province - include Wesdome Gold and Yamana Gold Mines.
