A financial aid adviser is on the hunt to return a gold ring, three years after she found it, reports the DelcoTimes.

Annette Kelly was handed the ring after it was picked up in a men's bathroom at the Delaware county community college were she is a Veteran's Affairs representative.

The gold ring has a Marine Corps insignia on it and so Ms Kelly was given the ring to look after.

Ms Kelly contacted various government agencies before being put through to the National Archives and Records Administration. Then it was discovered that the service number on the ring was matched to a Stanley Sladkovich, a first world war veteran.

Records showed Mr Sladkovich's pension was closed in 1975, suggested that he may have died.

Despite this, Ms Kelly is still searching for a family member to return the ring to.

She said: "I think I would want someone to do it for me if it was my dad's ring.

"I'm sure whoever lost it is probably just very upset and figuring it's gone."

The US Department of Veterans Affairs is an organisation to provide patient care and look after veterans' benefits.
