Advice has been offered to gold miners on the efficient use of energy.

To follow up from its Implementing a Sustainable Compressed Air Leak Programme study, the Ontario Mining Association (OMA) has issued a package detailing tips on how to use compressed air effectively, as well as highlighting inappropriate uses for the substance.

According to a report on the organisation's website, the resource also shows the benefits of detectors and gaskets in combating leaks of compressed air when excavating the precious metal.

Commenting on the offering, OMA president Chris Hodgson said: "Whether you are operating an existing mine, planning an expansion or designing a new mine, you can cut operating costs and realise productivity gains by effectively managing compressed air."

Figures cited by the organisation suggested that such air represents up to 20 per cent of the costs of underground gold mining.

Established in 1920, the OMA represents the mining industry in Ontario.
