Selfridges to sell gold-nosed teddy bear

Monday, 21st July 2008 (763 views)

Selfridges department store is to stock a teddy bear worth £43,000 with a 24-carat gold nose.

The bear is made by Steiff and will be available to buy in stores from August 2008.

The Telegraph said the limited edition bear is reputedly the most expensive teddy in the UK.

Not only is the nose to be made of gold, but the fur of the creature is made with gold leaf and it will come with a Mont Blanc pen and a pot of liquid gold ink, reports the newspaper.

Apparently Selfridges hopes the bear will appeal to visitors from the Middle East and to shoppers looking for a luxury Christmas present.

Anne Pitcher, buying and merchandising director, told the Telegraph: "Christmas is a time of indulgence which is why we have invested in a luxury festive offer appealing to both the UK and global markets."

Selfridges will also feature a £15,000 cashmere dressing gown as part of its Christmas gift collection, the Daily Mail said.
