Monday, 21st July 2008 (628 views) The one millionth ounce of bullion has been poured by Wesdome Gold Mines, it has emerged.According to the website of the Ontario Mining Association, of which Wesdome Gold Mines is a member, the Eagle River mine near Wawa hosted a ceremony to mark the definitive milestone. Donovan Pollitt, vice-president of corporate development with Wesdome Gold Mines, said the achievement was a testament to the organisation's resilience and endurance. "A million ounces of gold poured is a great achievement and demonstrates the Wesdome Group's significance within the Canadian mining industry," he said. The one millionth ounce was refined to a dore bar and poured in June 26th, with the celebration attended by directors, officers investors and local dignitaries, who enjoyed an underground tour of Eagle River. Created as a joint venture between Western Quebec Mines and Dome Mines in 1976, for the purpose of exploring the Wesdome property in Val d-Or, Western Quebec Mines bought out Dome Mines' interest in 1997.
