Jenkins: Gold bracelet charity campaign "brilliant"

Thursday, 26th June 2008 (666 views)

A charitable cause that sells gold bracelets to assist Aids victims has been praised by opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

According to the Nottingham Evening Post, Jenkins drew attention to the Montblanc scheme at a dinner in honour of Nelson Mandela at Hyde Park in London.

The singer is to be the star of a new campaign to raise money for Mandela's charity for sufferers of HIV and Aids, 46664, with which Montblanc has become involved.

"I'm one of the ambassadors for Montblanc, they've become involved in the 46664 bracelets and being involved with them I heard about this and I thought it was an absolutely brilliant way of raising money," she told the newspaper.

Jenkins explained that bracelets are available in gold and other precious metals, crafted by tradesmen in South Africa whose lives have been affected by HIV or Aids.

Money from the sale of these bracelets goes back to those who made them through the charity.

"I'm the first one to wear the gold in the world," she added.

Born in 1980, Jenkins has won two Classical Brit awards.
