Gold cap to mark Beckham's century of gamesWednesday, 28th May 2008 (291 views) England footballer and Mr Posh Spice David Beckham is to receive a special gold cap to mark his 100th appearance for his country when they play the United States on May 28th, according to reports.Footylatest.com says the country's Football Association, the national governing body for the game, decided to present the player with the cap ahead of the game at Wembley Stadium in London. Legendary England and Manchester United midfielder Sir Bobby Charlton - who won 106 international caps during his career - will present the gold cap to Beckham, who currently plays his club football in the US for the LA Galaxy. The site adds that the long-serving winger, whose previous clubs include Manchester United and Real Madrid, has also been given a gold iPod Touch by his international team-mates engraved with his name and a message commemorating his 100th cap. Sports firm Adidas have also contributed to the occasion by making two pairs of gold-coloured boots embroidered with "100th cap". International caps originated in 1886, when the Football Association decided to award a white silk cap embroidered with a rose to each player who appeared for the England team.
