Bright sparks awarded gold coinsTuesday, 27th May 2008 (246 views) Students who finished top of the class in recent examinations at a school in India have been rewarded for their hard work with gold coins, according to reports.Stockhouse.com states that the coins went to pupils at Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School in Puducherry who achieved Standard XII in recent public school exams. In addition to rewards for students achieving this state rank, gold was also bestowed on the top three school leaders in results and the best student in each individual subject area, the site adds. It is the 13th year that successful pupils have been awarded gold coins, the site notes. A total of 309 students sate the Higher Secondary Board exam this year and overall, the school handed out around 52 grams worth of gold. The tradition of awarding gold coins to students is practised in a number of countries. In the Philippines, children in the village of Diwalwal are rewarded with coins made from gold donated by local miners in order to inspire them to excel at their studies.
