Indian-born Canadian jewellery designer's work chosen for stamp

Tuesday, 27th May 2008 (348 views)

A necklace created by a jewellery designer who works in gold has been selected to be featured on a new set of stamps in Belgium.

Indian-born Canadian designer Reena Ahluwalia's Bel Canto necklace, inspired by opera diva Maria Callas, has been chosen by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre and the Belgium Post for display on one of five stamps released to promote the European Philatelic Championships, reports JCK India.

An American-norn Greek soprano, Maria Callas sang in operas by Puccini, Verdi and Bellini and was called the "bible of opera" by Leonard Bernstein.

"With jewellery pieces which boldly employ Tahitian pearls, geometric designs in gold and curiously shaped diamond rings even a naif would be impressed by Ahluwalia's superior creative bandwidth," the news provider comments.

Over the course of her 14-year career, the designer has received a number of honours, including the Tahitian Pearl Trophy and the Gold Virtuosi International Awards.
