Over 200 items of jewellery including gold watches, rings and brooches recovered by police in the UK are to go on display in the hope of reuniting them with their rightful owners, according to reports.

The Wisbech Standard says the items, which also include sovereigns, necklaces, earrings and bracelets, were rescued by officers during raids in the counties of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire between August 2007 and February 2008.

Norfolk police will now make the items available to view by the public on May 24th in the hope they can identify stolen property and return it to its owners.

Detective Sergeant Andy Lovick of the major investigations team said constabulary has written to a number of burglary victims inviting them to attend the exhibition.

"We are keen to identify as much of this property as possible," he commented.

Det Sgt Lovick also said anyone else who has been the victim of a robbery in the period covered but who did not report the crime at the time would also be welcome to attend.

According to figures from the British Crime Survey, there were 733,000 domestic burglaries in England and Wales in 2005-06. However, this number had declined by 59 per cent over the ten years since 1995.
