Gold found in Florida Keys shipwreckTuesday, 20th May 2008 (365 views) A new gold find has been reported at the site of a shipwreck off the Florida Keys, a new report indicates.The piece is a tiny gold combined toothpick and earwax spoon and was found at the site of a Spanish galleon shipwrecked in the US, reports AHN. Chris Rackley, the diver who discovered the item, reportedly thinks that its value could exceed $100,000 (£50,000). Discovered 40 miles of Key West almost 22 feet below the surface, items found include ceramic artefacts, ship fittings, rigging elements, spikes and two skeleton keys, all thought to be more than 385 years old. The shipwreck is the Santa Margarita, which sank in a hurricane in 1622, with its artefacts being the subject of searching by treasure hunters for more than 25 years. Previous finds include gold bars and chains, as well as a lead box containing thousands of pearls. Meanwhile, a piece of gold jewellery known as a Torc was recently found in Norfolk and could belong to one of the areas earliest Christian settlements, reports EDP24.com.
