A new mall in Dubai is set to contain the world's largest indoor gold souk, a new report indicates.

The Dubai Mall, due to open at the end of August, is to be located in downtown Burj Dubai, where the world's tallest building is soon to be situated.

Set to be the size of 50 football pitches, the mall is expect to draw more than 30 million people in its first year of opening.

Ian Scott, UK and Ireland director of the government of Dubai department of tourism and commerce marketing, asserts: "Dubai has seen an incredible boom in its retail sector with many exciting and pioneering shopping developments being created to inspire visitors."

The souk is said to offer an authentic experience to brush up against the more modern trappings of commerce, featuring the finest products to come from the emirate including gold, spices, textiles and food.

An outdoor gold souk is located in the middle of Dubai's commercial district in Deira, consisting of more than 300 retailers selling mostly jewellery.
