'Gold walking sticks' hit catwalk at Australian Fashion WeekMonday, 28th April 2008 (468 views) Gold walking sticks along with belts and necklaces made of the precious metal have hit the catwalks to mark the opening of Australian Fashion Week, according to reports.Newspaper the West Australian says the unusual fashion items were part of the show from Sydney-based Kirrily Johnston, a designer who also launched a collection to "rave reviews" at the 2004 event. This year's designs included a gold dress and gold detailing on a number of garments, while other ensembles included head scarves and "futuristic-looking round sunglasses". The newspaper added that the "modern collection" reflected Ms Johnston's reputation for "blending elegance with innovation, using luxurious fabrics and feminine tailoring". Ms Johnston opened her first boutique outlet in Sydney in 2005. Her designs are also sold in the United States, Great Britain, New Zealand and in parts of Asia. Around 100 Australian designers are expected to display their wares at the week-long event, which is now in its 13th year. Categories include women's ready to wear, individual collections and the new generation group collections.
