Rare gold coin awarded to veteran collectorWednesday, 16th April 2008 (923 views) A coin enthusiast of 49 years is celebrating his half-century as a collector one year early - after being awarded a mint condition high-relief Saint-Gaudens $20.The Maryland-based collector, who has requested to remain anonymous, was awarded the special item by Heritage Auction Galleries following its 2008 Auction Survey. "I have always admired this coin, but had never had the opportunity to purchase one. I have been so thrilled that I cannot wait until it arrives," said the Grand Prize winner. He added that the new golden arrival may replace the current centrepiece of his collection - a gem 1836 Gobrecht dollar. Other prizes that were dished out to people from across the US included American Numismatic Association memberships and mint condition Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coins. The latter were presented to four individual collectors. Heritage Auction Galleries claims to be the largest collectibles auctioneer in the world and has 367,102 members. It aims to be the internet's "most indispensable" source of information and trading platform for collectors, dealers and investors.
